Rod Tucker is a Laureate Emeritus Professor at the University of Melbourne. He was formerly Director of the Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society (IBES), Director of the Centre for Energy-Efficient Telecommunications, and Director of the Centre for Ultra-Broadband Information Networks. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering. He was awarded the Australia Prize in 1997 for his contributions to telecommunications and received the IEEE LEOS Aron Kressel Award in 2007 for his contributions to semiconductor optoelectronics. In 2012, Rod Tucker was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to the electrical and electronics industry.
