About:
Professor David Cantrill is the Chief Botanist and Executive Director Science of the National Herbarium of Victoria at the Royal Botanical Gardens Victoria. His area of expertise is in the history of Antarctic vegetation and, in particular, the role that Antarctica has played in developing present day patterns of plant distribution in the Southern Hemisphere. He also has an interest in fossil floras from South Africa and New Zealand concentrating on the Cretaceous and early Cenozoic. His research has a focus of extant groups including Proteaceae and Rutaceae, integrating the results of molecular and morphological studies with information from the geological record. David has been a Senior Research Scientist with the British Antarctic Survey (Cambridge, UK) and a Senior Curator in the Department of Paleobotany Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.
