International and domestic business events media attending the Asia Pacific Incentives & Meetings Expo (AIME) attended the first ever industry media famil dedicated to showcasing Melbourne as a knowledge city.
Facilitated by Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) the media famil was designed to show media through experience that Melbourne is a city with differentiated appeal, by highlighting Melbourne’s intellectual capacity, and how Melbourne’s knowledge capital is a key driver to securing significant business events to Melbourne.
Media were hosted at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity and given an exclusive tour of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC).
Dr Mike Catton, Peter Doherty Institute Co-Deputy Director and Director of the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory, outlined the work of the institute and its role in solving global health problems, while Professor Jose Villadangos, Laboratory Head at the Peter Doherty Institute and Club Melbourne Ambassador, summarised how his work led him to lead the bid for Melbourne to host the 2016 International Congress of Immunology.
Professor Jim Bishop, Executive Director VCCC and Club Melbourne Ambassador, hosted an exclusive behind the scenes tour of VCCC and highlighted the importance of international conferences in promoting Melbourne’s research expertise and the value of conferences to the VCCC.
